April Archives

April 30, 2008

Alright so I didn’t get everything I wanted done yesterday. Though I did get the photos and here they are.

They are a great bunch of kids and it was a real pleasure performing for them Monday.

This amazing bunch is lead by Cub Master  Kevin Shope, COR Lisa Grant, Tiger Den Leader Jennifer Jenkins, Assistant Tiger Den Leader Amy Romstadt, Wolf Den Leader Tim Sherman, Assistant Wolf Den Leader Dennis Ebel, Bear Den Leader Ed Grant, Assistant Bear Den Leader Chris Juhasz Webelos Den Leader Tim Fox.  Aren’t you amazing I remembered all of their names? J

Beyond getting the photos on the site I didn’t do much more. I worked with the doves for about 15 minuets each. I worked with a couple of different layouts for there cage and decided on one. The birds now trust me enough to let me hold them close to my body and feel my heart beet they enjoy that.

On the non magic side I did get my federal tax return check in the mail yesterday. And I cashed it the second I got it. :-) Prom is Saturday and now I have enough money for dinner. Yeah! Just an off note.

Well today is Wednesday and that means I work at Buffalo Wild Wings on Navarre from 6 until 8. So stop on in and check out some magic.

I’ll see if I can get some pictures of me working at BW’s today we’ll see.

One last time I would like to say thanks to Pack 244 for sponsoring us Monday and allowing us to entertain the cub scouts…

CUB SCOUTS ROCK!!!!

That’s all I have to say.

That show turned out great. The cub scouts were amazing. The show turned out to be a total hit and we even passed out a couple of flyers for our upcoming show at the Maumee Indoor Theater show this July. We had some amazing volunteers and a great audience. We would like to thanks the cub scouts for sponsoring this HUBP show. Brooke and I attended this show together and it seemed things flowed a lot better this show. Zig zag got a lot of reactions and of course snow did too. Thanks again Tim that was a blast. I will post photos here and on the photo page as soon as I can. Along with a link to the cub scouts website.

So the weekend got a lot better. I knew it would. The doves are now eating from my hands and are warming up to me quick. Today is Tuesday usually a rehearsal day for the crew and I but today Tara has a tech rehearsal with another show at school and Hil has to work. So Brooke and I will head up to Elmore today and rehearse metamorphosis. Tomorrow holds a lot for me I have the usual BW’s show at 6 but before that I have a very important meeting with Hilary our Animal liaison. Tomorrow starts day one with training and exercising the doves. Hopefully in about 6 weeks we will have fully trained doves ready to come to me at a moments notice. … We’ll see.

The Weekend Blog April 26 & 27

So the weekend was ok. Things in my life right now are a little hectic and I've been very stressed lately. But everything will work out. I have faith and love that keeps me strong even through the tough times.

But overall the weekend was ok. On Friday I worked on the script for the show made some minor changes throughout my spare time at school, before I had to go to work later that afternoon. Friday night I worked with the birds, trying to get them to eat feed out of my hand but they just didn’t trust me yet. Saturday rolled along. Brooke and I went to pick out a Tux for the prom this weekend and then I did some research on the doves trying to get the lowdown on the feathered friends. I picked up a DVD I thought was very inspirational called ‘Tony Clark Unmasked” It’s a great source if your looking to train your doves to come back to you. I watched that and now I have a new plan of attack for the birds.

Speaking of the birds I’ve learned a very important lesson that isn’t told to you when you purchase birds. A tip for feed and water. First white doves don’t like having enclosed feeders the ones with the spill guards they much rather prefer the open dish of feed. Same with the water. Second don’t leave food in the cage the birds will think they can eat what they want when they want so now I only feed them 2 table spoons of feed per bird in the morning and 1 and a half table spoons of feed per bird in the evening. Just this morning I finally got the respect of one dove. He sat on my finger and looked at me all morning when I tried to put him in his cage he didn’t want to go in so I think he trusts me. I’ll be working with these birds for 6 weeks to get them fully trained I hope it all works out. Well tonight I have a show with the cub scouts on Coy road in Oregon. Not a very long drive. So Ill post some pics of that tomorrow.

April 25, 2008

Yesterday was very productive as much as it was fun. My day started off with a meeting with our IT technician (Izzo) who helps run our website. The meeting was very productive we made a lot of changes to the website. We checked all the links to verify that they all work and they do. (email me if you find one that doesn’t) Then it was off to Elmore to set up all the stuff to take for the cub scouts show I had scheduled for 7pm. I decided to take the Zig Zag this time and try out a larger illusion for the young crowd. This gets interesting quick. If you have seen any pictures of me you can tell I'm not very strong I have muscles but I can’t life that zig zag by myself if my life depended on it. So I thought I’d give the Load crew a call and see if they had a half hour free and we could move that zig zag. They did and I thought “why not kill two birds with one stone” figuratively speaking of course. I went to pick up the load crew and we made a quick stop at my house to pick up the Metamorphosis box. I just got the box back from the welders and its now on wheels! But it still weighs 200 lbs. So I asked the guys if they wouldn’t mind loading the metamorphosis box into my truck and unloading it in Elmore. We got it all loaded into the truck in about 2 minutes They picked it up like it was a shoe box. I love the load crew. We drove out to our theater and started unloading it. But I forgot to tell the guys we would need to move this 200lbs. box up 2 flights of stairs. J oops… So there we were. (bobby on the left and Strosh on the right) pondering how we were going to get this box up the stairs.

I never have to worry with these two amazing guys, they are the load crew team leaders and they earned it yesterday. They powered through it and brought that box right up stairs. Then moved 2 other boxes downstairs and helped me load them into my truck. Thanks guys.

With the truck all packed up for the show at 7 we decided it was lunch time and we all went to the Genoa Taco Bell for some filling food for the night.

Seven o'clock rolled around pretty quick and we were on the road to troop 434’s Blue and Gold Banquet. We got there without any delays and had a lot of fun putting on a great HUBP show for the scouts. When we arrived there we met our contact and wonderful scout leader Sheryl. We had so much fun and would like to thank troop 434 for sponsoring this amazing show. Congrats cub scouts!
Check out our photos link for more photos of our shows.

Today was also eventful starting my morning with a phone call from the Curtice Post Office at 6:30 am “hey you have some birds down here” My first thought was who are you and what time is it. Then it hit me, Today was the day I was supposed to receive my White doves. And they were here. So I ran out to my car in my PJs and made it to the post office by 6:45. I got them to my house and in the cage as I was putting on deodorant for school. (Talk about multitasking) I made it to school on time. I can’t wait to get home to start working with them. The doves are so beautiful and will make a great addition to our act. I’ll post some pictures of them as soon as I can. One more time I would like to say thanks to Troop 434 for the great dinner and the great memories.

April 23, 2008

Wednesdays are truly the middle of the week for me. The crew has the day off and I have to work at Buffalo Wild Wings on Navarre. I enjoy working there it’s always great to try out my new material for the week and see the kids smile. Work starts at 6 for me and ends at 8. They’re pretty nice there, they provide me with a free meal and I work for tips I get paid a small wage, but only enough to afford gas to come back next week. Yesterday I worked with our seamstress to put together the curtains for 3 of our new illusions. I spent 4 hours in a very hot room that has a huge table for sewing and possibly 100 lights to warm the room up. Then I put together a list for a show I have tomorrow for the boy scouts blue and gold banquet. That should be fun I truly enjoy these types of show because they are the closest shows to the grand illusion shows I love performing. Today I plan to run up to the fabric store and get some more curtain material and I'm looking for a print with all of the countries on it. If anyone has an idea on where to find one I would appreciate it. Just send me an e-mail at info@dimagicians.com. Well its off to the store for me tomorrow I'm going to take the day off school to work up in Elmore. Its ok I'm aloud to take the day off I earned it by passing all of my OGT tests last spring and our gift from the staff to us students was 2 incentive days to use when we’d like. I have one left and tomorrow seems like the day to take off. I’m going to try to get a lot accomplished tomorrow so rehearsal will be easier. Tomorrow will be fun ill do my best to post but I want to get a lot done so we’ll see. It’s Magic

April 22, 2008

Today is my first post to our new Blog page. I am hoping that someone actually reads this sometimes but even if not I enjoy writing them. Well the countdown has begun for our NEW Show at the Maumee Indoor Theater. Show dates are Friday July 11th and Saturday July 12th. Show time is 7pm. Tickets are available on our home page by clicking on TICKETS or by calling us at 419-503-0903. This show is going to be BIG. The Crew and I have been working on this show for a year and a half now and were getting down to the final days to rehearse.

For better clarification when I say ‘Crew’ I’m referring to these people. (From Left to Right) Brooke Black, Illusion manager and Leader of the team. Tara Reynolds, Onstage Assistant and assistant Illusion manager. ME Clay Moore Illusionist. And Hilary S our animal liaison.

That’s us were an odd bunch but that only the small team that works besides the 3 other teams of people we have The Tech Crew (running sound and lighting) The Load Crew (loading In and Out our Show) and the Illusion Team ( these people are the people who work with me in putting together the paper work for all the shows)

Today I’m off to our theater in Elmore to set up for our new doves and get stuff ready for our rehearsal Thursday. Hope you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoy writing them. See you tomorrow. And remember It’s magic.
